Original cast member 54 years. My son Ronald Collier was the first baby Jesus. 

Fun Fact: When I was learning What Child is This, I wrote the word on the paper holder where candles were inserted.

Mildred Walker

Mildred E. Walker (mezzo-soprano) is a Boston native who has been singing for audiences since the age of 6.

She has toured internationally with various groups and performed with various artists including Diana Ross, James Taylor, Patti LaBelle, and Barry Manilow.

Mildred and her family have been involved with Black Nativity for over 30 years.

Her son is the stage manager, her daughter and granddaughter work backstage, and her god-sister, the late Annette Brown, danced the role of Mary and was the ballet mistress for the production.

I sang in the All City, All State, and All Regional choir for three years. Classically trained with North Carolina Agricultural Technical University (AT&T). I sang with Maurice Star entertainment. I have Performed in several musicals Sweeney Todd, Avita, Miss Saigon, and local play Empty Mansion.

Is excited to begin her seventh year as part of the Black Nativity cast.  Tracy loves being a part of the Black Nativity legacy and believes that the Black Nativity legacy has become a treasured part of who she is becoming.   When she is not singing with Black Nativity, she can be found singing at the Divine Tabernacle Center in Dorchester, MA, or teaching mathematics to bright minds in Boston Public Schools.

Fun fact: The Director of Black Nativity initially invited me to "watch" a rehearsal.  30 minutes later, I was on stage rehearsing with the cast.  That was the beginning of my Black Nativity journey.

Supreme Nkosi Newton

My name is Supreme Nkosi Newton I am a Guyanese American born and raised in Cambridge, MA. Putnam Gardens who loves everything about music, sees it as a way of therapy and a way to connect with all people regardless to race, color, or creed. 

Fun fact: I’ve been involved in Black Nativity 3 times and the feeling of joy, upliftment, and family never fails me when I’m around anyone from the cast and I love them dearly for that.

Pelaiah Yisrael

Is a singer/songwriter & poet. I've scored movies & commercial soundtracks (Strike 4, movie & Mary Lou's coffee - commercial) .   

Performing at notable venues such as: Madison Sq. Gardens, The Apollo Theater & BB Kings of New York & New England Conservatory. 

I've opened for the likes of The Whispers, The Temptations (NAACP annual gala) & Sizzla & Sista Carol (Slave theater, Brooklyn, NY). 

I've been a recipient of several grants and awards on my commitment to music, youth & community, from the City of Boston. 

Fun Fact: This is my 1st year with Black Nativity & Langston Hughes is one of my favorite writers.

Bianca Doman

Bianca, a new member of Black Nativity, specializes in IT and media production and enjoys helping others in her day-to-day activities. She is fond of anything music or art related and hopes to travel to 6-7 continents one day! 

Bianca Rameau-Sullivan

Bianca is a dedicated Alto/Tenor vocalist and member of the Worship Team at Jubilee Christian Church in Boston, Massachusetts. This year marks her debut in the musical production of Langston Hughes’ Black Nativity

Fun fact: Joining the cast was a goal Bianca had placed on her vision board at the start of the year!

Hanifa Kamau-Nelson

Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Hanifa Nelson-Kamau now resides in Ashburnham, MA. With a career spanning numerous stages and platforms, she has had the honor of performing for and alongside iconic figures such as Maya Angelou, Josh Groban, Ruby Dee, Nelson Mandela, Rosa Parks, as well as prominent political leaders and sports celebrities.

Fun Fact:

In dedication to preserving the legacy of Black Nativity, Hanifa travels over 3,000 miles each season to continue this cherished tradition.

Alumni of Berklee College of Music, also known by his music name "Clef Nite" is a singer, songwriter, instrumentalist and a music producer.

He has successfully performed and produced music for multiple popular musicians. Now a new member of the Black Nativity Chorus

Fun Fact: Singing with Black Nativity makes me feel like I am reliving the songs because of how expressive the singing is.

Jumaada Smith

A dedicated advocate for Boston’s underrepresented neighborhoods, Jumaada’s community engagement spans across various impactful roles. Her works demonstrate her unwavering commitment to honoring Black History and advancing community resilience.

Fun Fact: Jumaada, “Just LOVES, every single part of “Black Nativity!”

Shirley Jones

I have been a member of Black Nativity cast for more than thirty years. I came to the cast when John Ross became my church choir director. The cast has become my family.

Fun Fact: I remember a time when we were in the green room preparing for the show, I went to say hello to my dance teacher. She was sitting next to Mr. Ross; she said Oh Shirley was one of my little girls. I felt special to be remembered.

I am a 38-year-old Boston native. I have 3 children, ages 17, 12 and 3. I was in Black Nativity as a child.

Fun fact: I hope to one day play Mary or have a solo either song or narrator.

Ms. Ross has been an exemplary Theater Arts teacher for 30 years with the Boston Public Schools. Her innovation and exceptional creative contributions to the field of theater education has helped guide her to become the Executive Producer and Director of NCAAA Black Nativity. Ms. Ross has been involved in the production for 48 years.

Dancers

Desiree Springer

Dancer and teacher in the New England area. She has been a part of Black Nativity since she was 6 yrs. old, first as a singer, then dancer, and now as the Ballet Mistress.

Desiree worked hard to learn and maintain the original roles of “Mary” and “Joseph”. Her children were in production, working various roles in the production.

Fun Fact: both of her children and one grandchild have played the role of Baby Jesus. Her granddaughter is now playing percussion in the show next to her grandfather and uncle

Kaleisha Nance

A passionate dance educator, studio owner, and advocate for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the arts. She is the owner and director of 4 Star Dance Studio, formerly Arts Director at Codman Academy Charter School, and performed in Black Nativity for nine years. With a teaching philosophy shaped by her own learning experiences, Kaleisha is committed to fostering creativity and inclusion in every student she teaches.

Fun Fact: Kaleisha Chance experienced a full-circle moment in 2018 when her daughter played Baby Jesus in Black Nativity.

Boston native started dancing at Roxbury Center for the Performing Arts, a graduate of Boston arts academy and Boston Conservatory, Joe has been dancing in Black Nativity Boston since 2005.

Fun Fact: When Joe first started with the production, he was to young for facial hair and had to paint it on a to play Joseph.

Taleah is a talented dancer offering many years of experience in various styles of dance. This is Taleah’s second year starring as Mary in Black Nativity.
