The Boston City-Wide String Orchestra is a multi-generational orchestra for 24-30 string players who live in the greater Boston area and rehearse every Saturday at the Timilty Middle School in Roxbury, Massachusetts.
Players range in age from nine years to adult. The BCWSO presents two to three concerts each season. The orchestra is in its fourth season
Membership is open to any string player (violin, viola, cello or bass) who studies privately or in a small ensemble, reads music, and is willing to commit to rehearsals and concerts. There is no age limit.
The BCWSO gives many string players in the Boston area the opportunity to play with an orchestra, expand their music experiences and to improve their music education. The concert presentations and interactions with audience members and members of other orchestras strengthens the self-esteem of all participants in the group, especially the teens. The BCWSO teaches youth the power of commitment, responsibility, and giving to others through music.
